Introducing the wool and rope basket

I’m really pleased with how this design has come out. I’ve wanted to do a basket weaving box for ages but I wanted to make it to a unique Craft Box Club style. It’s lovely weaving with the wool as it’s much softer to work with than traditional basket weaving. The repetitive stitching and weaving actions are super relaxing and it’s nice that you can put this project down for a tea break really easily.

Please note, this kit makes one basket.

TOP TIPS

  • Be careful with the needle! - the needle goes through this cotton rope fairly easily but you need to push quite firmly. Make sure your fingers aren’t going to be in the way.

  • Pull the wool quite tight - the wool is quite stretchy, so pull it tight when you do your weave and you’ll get a much stronger basket.

  • Work with arm lengths - Work with arm lengths of wool and thread as it will be more manageable.

Plan your craft

Total make time - 2 - 3 hours

  1. Make your base with a coil or rope. Secure with needles.

  2. Stich your base.

  3. Weave wool to form a colourful, fluffy mid section.

  4. Strengthen the basket by stitching the top.

  5. Finish with a rope coil to tidy the loose end of rope.
