Pom POm Cactus

Welcome to another eco-friendly craft from Craft Box Club. This craft is so cute, super trendy and will really add a pop or colour to your home! I do love a pom pom and I’m so glad I’ve found another excuse for us to make them together. I find making pom poms very easy and therapeutic, but this is not your traditional pom pom craft project. We’ll be sculpting the poms into this happy cactus and moulding it into shape with wire.

As usual we’re using the best yarn around. 100% wool in some stunning bright but natural colours. You’ll also be doing a little painting to really give your make some unique personality so we’ve included our favourite powder paint in with the kit. Just add water and you’re away!

I hope you really enjoy getting creative with this kit. If you do, please leave a review using the link at the bottom of this guide. It’s so important in helping people find us. Plus I’d really love to know how you get on.

TOP TIPS

  • Tie them tight - Tie the middle of your pom poms really right with 3 knots so they stay secure and puff up just right.

  • Trim your poms - The secret to the perfect pom is to trim them into just the right shape. While you’re doing this, also give them a brush with your fingers to make them fluff up.

  • Get creative - There are some ideas in the video to get you going, but how you paint your pot is up to you. Enjoy and make it unique to you!

Plan your craft

Total make time - 2 hours.

1. Mix your powder paint with a few drops of water to make a paste then thin with more water til it’s the right consistency for paint.

2. Paint your pot with a simple design.

3. Cut out a pom pom template.

4. Place the two rings together.

5. Starting with the green yarn, wind it around the template to begin making your pom pom.

6. Once you have so much yarn around your template that no more will fit on cut the yarn.

7. Using sharp scissors, trim between the 2 pieces of card making sure to hold the middle of the yarn in place.

8. Cut all the way around.

9. Slip a short length of yarn between the card rings.

10. Tighten the yarn and tie with a triple knot.

11. Fluff your pom pom up.

12. Trim into a rough sphere.

13. Place some pom pom trimmings in the pot.

14. Place your pom pom in the pot then make another green pom pom.

15. Cut a short length of wire and make a hook in one end. Push it through the second pom pom and into the first to secure.

16. Once in place, trim the pom poms into more of a cactus shape.

17. Make a yellow and a pink pom pom. This time cut them a bit shorter than the green ones. Secure with the wire as before.

18. Give your cactus a final trim.
