PLASTIC FREE CHAMPIONS

We are thrilled to announce that our eco-friendly craft kits business Craft Box Club has been awarded the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) Plastic Free Champion status! This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in our journey toward sustainability and reinforces our commitment to protecting the environment. We are working towards our silver status and that involves connecting with you, our wonderful community to see how we can all reduce plastic use where we are.

Who are Surfers Against Sewage?

Surfers Against Sewage is a grassroots environmental charity dedicated to the protection of the ocean, waves, beaches, and wildlife. Founded in 1990, SAS has grown from a small group of surfers protesting against sewage pollution to a nationwide movement addressing a broad range of marine conservation issues. Their mission is to create a Plastic Free Coastlines by mobilizing local communities, promoting policy changes, and raising awareness about the impact of plastic pollution.

The Importance of Crafting Without Plastic

In our modern world, plastic has become an omnipresent material due to its convenience and low cost. However, its durability means it can take hundreds of years to decompose, leading to significant environmental damage. Crafting without plastic is a powerful way to reduce our ecological footprint and promote sustainability. Far too many of the products offered to crafters are massively over packaged and contain hidden plastic. Toxic paint, plastic wool and yarn and glitter are just some examples of harmful plastic hidden in plain sight. By eliminating plastic from our craft kits, we not only reduce waste but also inspire creativity through the use of natural, biodegradable, and recyclable materials.

Why Our Eco-Friendly Craft Kits Matter

Achieving the Plastic Free Champion status from SAS underscores the value of our efforts. And we’re not just stopping there. We’re aiming for our next level silver award and that’s why we’re here engaging with our community. It means that our business practices align with the high standards set by SAS for reducing plastic use. Here’s how we do it:

  • Materials: Our craft kits use sustainably sourced materials such as natural wool, recycled paper, powdered Earth paints, and plant based non-toxic dyes.

  • Packaging: We avoid plastic in our packaging, opting for recyclable and compostable alternatives like cardboard and wood.

  • Community Engagement: We actively engage with our customers and community to educate and inspire plastic-free crafting.
